Julie Hearshen Miller

Julie Miller was named Secretary to the Board of Governors in March of 2001, an appointment that caps more than 30 years of service to Wayne State University. Prior to coming to the Office of the Secretary to the Board of Governors, Ms. Miller served as Executive Assistant to then university President Irvin D. Reid, a role she continues to hold in conjunction with her current position. Ms. Miller has held other administrative positions at the university. Her previous university experience includes serving as Confidential Assistant to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, 15 years of administrative service in the School of Business Administration, as well a concurrent two-year assignment as a facilitator for the university's Quality of Service program, on-site at the School of Business Administration and team-teaching seminars and workshops on quality service to groups of university-wide employees.

Ms. Miller earned two degrees from Wayne State University while working full-time, a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Human Resource Management in 1992, and a Master's of Industrial Relations in 1997. Her interest in human resources began early in her career at the university, when she served as Trustee and then Financial Secretary/Treasurer of U.A.W. Local 2071.

Ms. Miller celebrated her 25th wedding anniversary to husband Michael in 2008, and is extremely proud of the accomplishments of her sons Erik and Douglas, and daughter Jennifer. The family cats, "Alex" and "Shane", round out the household.
