  OFFICIAL NOTICE OF  MEETING     The Wayne State University Board of Governors and three of its standing committees will meet on Friday, December 2, 2016 in Room BC at McGregor Memorial Conference Center, 495 Gilmour Mall, MI 48202.  The schedule of meetings is shown below.   Academic Affairs Committee -- 10:30 a.m. Budget and Finance Committee – 11:00 a.m. Student Affairs Committee – 11:15 a.m. Board of Governors Meeting – 3:30 p.m.  

Sandra O'Brien

Elected November 2012
Term of Office:  January 1, 2013 - December 31, 2020

Sandra Hughes O’Brien is the principal owner of the O’Brien Law Office, PLLC, based in Northville, Mich. Sandy concentrates her practice in the areas of estate planning, probate and trust administration. She has lectured before a variety of groups on estate planning and related topics.  Sandy is active in the State Bar of Michigan and was appointed to her second term on the Bar Leadership Liaison Committee.

Through her affiliation with the Hispanic Bar Association of Michigan, Sandy became interested in mentoring students. She is currently a mentor for the College to Career (C2C) Program for the Center for Latino and Latin American Studies (CLLAS) at Wayne State University. She also is an annual guest speaker at Michigan State University’s Dia de la Mujer (Woman’s Day) Conference, where she speaks to high school and college-age Latinas in an effort to empower future leaders.

Sandy serves on several boards and committees, including the Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation, the Hispanic Bar Association of Michigan, the State Bar of Michigan Bar Leadership Liaison Committee, and Northville Public Schools District Curriculum Council. Sandy is also the current chair of the Michigan Democratic Party’s Hispanic Caucus.

She is a graduate of the Detroit College of Law at Michigan State University (J.D., cum laude, 1998). Sandy received her undergraduate degree from Grand Valley State University.

Sandy is a lifelong Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions fan. She resides in Northville with her husband, Barrie; their three children, Faelan, Fiona, and Rory; and their dog, Lola.
