Jacquelin Washington retired from her position as President/CEO of Planned Parenthood of Southeast Michigan in 1999, where she was responsible for the administration of six family planning clinics in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb Counties. The organization had a budget of two million dollars and a staff of thirty-five which provided health care service and sexuality education for 12,000 men, women and teens. Previously she served as President/CEO of the Pontiac Area Urban League for five years. Her other professional experiences include human resource management and training for Bendix Corporation and Vixen Motor Company.
In addition to her professional duties, she serves on the boards of several nonprofit organizations: Executive Vice President, ACLU Fund of Michigan; Chair, Central UM Church Community Developmental Corporation.
Past Board service include Planned Parenthood Affiliates of Michigan, treasurer, Alpha Kappa Alpha Foundation of Detroit and Chair, Administrative Council, Central United Methodist Church, Michigan Metro Girl Scout Council, Founders Society, Detroit Institute of Arts, St. Joseph Mercy Hospital-Oakland and the Sojourner Foundation (an organization she co-founded).
She was the first African American elected to serve as President of the national NOW-Legal Defense and Education Fund which litigates and educates on issues related to discrimination against women in employment and education. She was inducted into the Michigan Women's Hall of Fame for her advocacy on behalf of women.
She received a B.A. degree from Fisk University, Nashville, Tennessee and an M.S.W. degree from Wayne State University.
Married to the late Kenneth B. Washington, three children, Saundra, Byron and Kristin and one granddaughter, Grace.
