2.12.01.010 | Purpose |
The purpose of this statute is to identify the principal divisions of the University, and to define the elements of University organization that can only be changed by the Board of Governors, while also stating the President's full executive authority to make operational decisions not reserved to the Board. | |
2.12.01.020 | Board of Governors |
Article 8, Section 5 of the Constitution of the State of Michigan establishes the Board of Governors to have general supervision of Wayne State University. The Constitution further provides that the Board of Governors shall elect the President, who shall be the chief executive officer of the University. | |
2.12.01.030 | President |
The administration of the University is vested in the President, who is responsible for the organization of the University and for carrying out the policies established by the Board of Governors. The Board of Governors has retained a certain authority in this statute, and in other statutes, for the organization of the University; in areas not retained by the Board of Governors, the President is authorized to establish and reorganize the administration and to change the reporting lines of academic and nonacademic units of the University. | |

The principal divisions of the University are Executive Office of the President, Academic Affairs, Finance and Business Operations, Research, and Development and Alumni Affairs. | |
2.12.01.050 | Executive Office of the President |
This division shall be composed of areas of responsibility designated by the President, that report directly to the President, and shall include the following executive officers: executive vice president and chief of staff, vice president of economic development, and secretary to the Board of Governors. | |
2.12.01.060 | Academic Affairs |
The primary officer shall be a provost and senior vice president. The division is responsible for academic, faculty and student affairs and other appropriate areas that may be designated by the President. | |
2.12.01.070 | Administrative Operations |
The primary officer shall be an executive vice president or vice president. The division is responsible for appropriate areas that may be designated by the President. | |
2.12.01.071 | Marketing and Communications |
The primary officer shall be a vice president. The division is responsible for appropriate areas that may be designated by the President. | |
2.12.01.075 | Finance and Business Operations |
The primary officer shall be a vice president. The division is responsible for appropriate areas that may be designated by the President. | |
2.12.01.076 | General Counsel |
The primary officere shall be a vice president. The division is responsible for appropriate areas that may be designated by the President. | |

The primary officer shall be a vice president. The division is responsible for appropriate areas that may be designated by the President. | |
2.12.01.078 | Government and Community Affairs |
The primary officer shall be a vice president. The division is responsible for appropriate areas that may be designated by the President. | |

The primary officer shall be a vice president. The division is responsible for appropriate areas that may be designated by the President. | |
2.12.01.090 | Schools, Colleges, and other Academic Units |
Schools, colleges, and other academic units are organized within the Division of Academic Affairs. It is through the schools and colleges and, in certain cases, through divisions, programs, centers, and institutes and other special entities, that the research and instruction mission of the University, defined in its Mission Statement is carried out. Except as it may expressly delegate, the Board of Governors reserves solely to itself the authority to create, terminate, and reorganize colleges, schools, divisions, programs, academic departments, institutes and centers. | |

Each school and college (including Libraries and the Graduate School) shall have a dean, who shall be the chief officer of the unit. | |

Schools and colleges may be organized into sub-units such as academic departments or divisions, each of which shall be administered by a chairperson, director, or similar administrator, the titles to be determined by the President or `his/her designee. | |
