2.22.01 Graduate Education

2.22.01.010  
  There is established a Graduate School with general responsibility for graduate programs, pursuant to this statute.
2.22.01.020  
  The President or his/her designee shall serve as executive officer of the Graduate School
2.22.01.030  
  There shall be a single, comprehensive Graduate Council for the University as a whole, chaired by the executive officer of the Graduate School. The Graduate Council shall have authority and responsibility for the development and recommendation of basic policies for the graduate education system and for the encouragement, improvement and evaluation of graduate programs throughout the University.
2.22.01.040  
  The Ph.D. degree shall be granted by the President, pursuant to delegation by the Board of Governors, on the recommendations of the graduate faculties, as approved by the Graduate Council and the appropriate University officers.
2.22.01.050  
  The Ed.D. degree shall be granted by the President, pursuant to delegation by the Board of Governors, on the recommendation of the graduate faculty in the College of Education and the appropriate University officers.
2.22.01.060  
  All professional degrees shall be granted by the President, pursuant to delegation by the Board of Governors, on the recommendation of the faculties of the respective professional programs and the appropriate University officers.
2.22.01.070  
  The Master's degrees shall be granted by the President, pursuant to delegation by the Board of Governors, through the appropriate school, college or other graduate program, on the recommendation of the respective graduate faculties and the appropriate University officers.
2.22.01.080  
  The actions and recommendations of the Graduate Council concerning policies and formal evaluations will go to the executive officer of the Graduate School for approval and implementation.
2.22.01.090  
  The Graduate Council will also report its actions and recommendations periodically to the President of the Academic Senate for information, review, or other action considered appropriate by that body. Except in changes affecting fundamental educational policy or University organization, the actions of the Graduate Council will be effective subject to post-audit review by the Academic Senate.
2.22.01.100  
  The Graduate Council shall be comprised of (1) its chair, the executive officer of the Graduate School, ex officio; (2) two representatives from each of the schools and colleges with graduate programs; (3) three representatives appointed by the executive officer of the Graduate School; (4) two graduate student representatives appointed according to procedures developed by the Graduate Council.
