| To be admitted to graduate study, an applicant must, except as provided in Section 2.34.12.020, hold or be completing an earned baccalaureate degree or its equivalent from a college or university accredited by a recognized national or regional accrediting agency in the United States and must have adequate preparation in and discernible ability to pursue graduate studies in the major field elected. | |

| An applicant who has not pursued studies in a college or university accredited by a recognized national or regional accrediting agency in the United States may be considered for regular admission if he/she presents an Honor Point Average of 3.0 (B) or better, or its equivalent in the case of a student who has studied outside the United States, for the upper division studies (approximately the last 60 semester credit hours) or his/her undergraduate course work. | |

| Regular admission. For regular admission to master's degree study, an applicant shall obtain the recommendation of the major departmental advisor or the graduate officer of the appropriate school or college and present an Honor Point Average of 2.75 (C = 2.0) or better, or its equivalent, or in the case of a non-accredited school or college (see Section 2.34.12.020) an Honor Point Average of 3.0 or better or its equivalent, for the upper division studies (approximately the last 60 semester credit hours) or his/her undergraduate course work. | |

| An applicant may be granted qualified admission to master's degree study upon the written recommendation of the major departmental advisor or the graduate officer of the appropriate school or college and upon presentation of an Honor Point Average between 2.50 and 2.74 (C = 2.0), or in the case of a student who has studied outside the United States, an Honor Point Average between 2.50 and 2.99, for the upper division studies (approximately the last 60 semester credit hours) of his/her undergraduate course work. Upon demonstrated ability to successfully complete graduate-level course work, the qualified admission status may be changed to regular admission status by the appropriate college or school. | |

| An applicant may be admitted to doctoral study upon the recommendation of the major departmental advisor or the graduate officer of the appropriate school or college if the applicant's undergraduate Honor Point Average is 3.0 or above (C = 2.0), or its equivalent in the case of a student who has studied outside the United States, for the upper division (approximately 60 semester credits) of his/her undergraduate course work and if the applicant has completed an undergraduate major or has done substantial specialized work in the proposed doctoral major field. | |

| A Wayne State University senior with an upper division Honor Point Average of 3.0 (C = 2.0) or better may, upon recommendation by the major departmental advisor or the graduate officer of the appropriate school or college, be admitted to graduate study in his/her last semester of undergraduate study as a "senior rule admittee." Graduate credit is awarded only for those courses taken in excess of baccalaureate degree requirements. Regular graduate admission status is granted upon proof that the student has completed all requirements for the baccalaureate degree. | |

| An applicant who wishes to take graduate courses but does not wish to be in a degree program may be admitted to a non-degree status. All applicants for non-degree admission must meet the requirements of Sections 2.34.12.010 through 2.34.12.060. | |

| Upon presentation of written verification of good standing at the home institution, graduate students from other accredited institutions or international schools of recognized standing are permitted a one-semester admission as a graduate guest student. A departmental or college approval is not required for this admission. | |

| All applicants for admission to graduate certificate programs must meet the requirements of Sections 2.34.12.010 through 2.34.12.060 and 2.34.12.070 through 2.34.12.100. | |

| Individual departments, schools, and colleges reserve the right to recommend to the President or his/her designee entrance requirements beyond the minimum graduate admission requirements of the University. | |
| 2.34.12.250 | Exceptions |
| The President or his/her designee is authorized to: a) grant exceptions to any of the above admission categories, under extraordinary circumstances; and b) to establish specific admission standards for degree programs after consultation with the Graduate Council and the school or college. | |
| 2.34.12.260 | Special Status Admission |
| After consultation with the Graduate Council and the school or college establishing the program, the President or his/her designee may designate categories of Special Status admission. |
