Frequently asked questions on public comments
-
Is there an opportunity for public comment at Board of Governors meetings?
Yes. Part of the agenda at each Board of Governor’s public meeting allows time for individuals to present comments to the board. The board does not generally respond to these comments during this section of the meeting.
-
Who is eligible to speak?
Students, staff, faculty, alumni and members of the community. One hour is set aside for public comment, allowing for up to five presenters to speak on the same topic. Additional information is provided in the board’s Procedures for Meetings of the WSU Board of Governors and its committees.
-
How do I sign up?
Complete the online sign-up form. Requests are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. The form must be submitted at least 48 hours in advance of the meeting where the requestor wishes to speak.
-
How will I know if my request has been approved?
You will receive two emails from the Office of the Secretary to the Board of Governors once your request has been received. The first email is an auto-reply message confirming that your form was received. The second email will confirm if your request to speak has been approved, and provide you with the time and location of the meeting.
-
When will I speak?
Public comment on agenda related topics will be heard at the committee where the topic is scheduled for discussion during the board’s morning committee meetings. Public comment on non-agenda related topics will be heard during the board’s afternoon meeting. The agenda for the board meeting is posted on the board’s website seven days in advance of the meeting, and will list the meeting’s date, time and location. You must be present when you are called to speak. If you are not present at that time, you forfeit your opportunity to address the board at that meeting. You may not designate someone else to speak in your place.
